About Augusta

I am an author, artist, mystic, and mother, and have three university degrees and a black belt in Okinawan karate.

I love the outdoors in any form and in any weather. When I am not writing, I enjoy hiking, swimming, walking, camping, and playing the piano with a country and western fiddle band. In addition, one of my favorite spaces is the sunroom of a wise woman and her guides, which offers me time to ponder a deeper understanding of the mystery of living and who we truly are.

I live by a lake in Nova Scotia, embraced by family, friends, loons, and beavers. My life is constantly illuminated by my four children, two grandchildren, and sage friends, past and present. For nearly three decades I have lived half the year on my own in Tucson, Arizona with visitors, yellow finches, and surrounded by cacti.

I loved the beauty and rawness of the high desert with its’ tall Saguaro cacti, the four mountain ranges that surround the city, and the cacti and mesquite tree in my backyard.

I hiked three of the mountains: the Santa Catalinas, and Rincons, and made it to the top of the Tucson mountains where I could see a plane or two flying below.

Covid ended my time in Tucson, so now Florida in the winter will offer sun and swimming for a month or two. Last year, some of the family went to Panama City Beach. Long walks, struggling to begin my latest book, and doing a little shopping filled my time. The picture left, is napping after Dillards.

My interests touch on metaphysics, the mystics, the philosophies of Buddhism and Christianity, as well as, the multi-dimensional aspects of reality being explored in quantum physics. I believe our lives constantly speak to us, pointing us toward a spirituality beyond our surface selves. And I live in awe and gratitude for that deep magnetic, and seemingly silent Voice that constantly offers to guide us. I also have enjoyed walking with others on their spiritual paths.

One of my loves has been sitting before an easel on a fisherman’s wharf in one of the many coves down the coast – spending days attempting to capture sea, sky, and fishing boats. Aside from being a landscape artist, I also am a trained portrait painter and taught painting for a decade in Tucson.

My favorite music is soft jazz, a little folk, country, classical, and opera. I also play piano for a little group and we call ourselves “The Wheelers”.

I am an established writer. Moments That Blink Back (2016), The Cottage Woman (2021), and Living, Inside of Now are my current publications.

I have been a contributing writer to Contemporary, Literary Horizons, a multicultural magazine of contemporary culture and spirituality, published in several languages. I also have maintained a bimonthly collection of writings for a decade, titled Life, Meaning, and Joyful Purpose, and also am a contributor to the Goose River Anthology, published in New England.

I am a member of the Writers Federation of Nova Scotia. My books are set in the Maritimes, on the shores of the North Atlantic.

I write nonfiction with a metaphysical lean and follow the tradition of the mystics, the seers, and enlighteners – ancient and present.

I write because I have to. The writer in me is my companion, my partner. Where do the words come from that change us? What are the “How to’s” for living well? What sparks our spirituality? What triggers joyful purpose and the questions that occupy our soul/heart?

I am also grateful for the wisdom of some great books that continue to mold me. My book friends walk with me daily in one form or the other.
